Indian Almond Leaves and Betta

Keeping indian almond leaves in a Betta aquarium can lower ph levels and remove heavy metal content. It has been used by Betta breeders in Thailand for many years. Hobbyist use it for conditioning before breeding and for scale hardening.

The leaves can also be used to treat bacteria infection and help the Bettas recover from injuries. Some people have used it to increase breeding frequency.

Assuming an average 6-10" (15.2-25.4cm) long leaf, you use one quarter of this for every 4L (1.1 US G.) litres for Bettas or 1-2 leaves per 50L (13.2 US G.) for other species. Leave them in the tank for around 15 days in a filter bag or let them lie loose, they will sink after 2-3 days. Expect the water to tint slightly brown with the tannins.

Dislaimer: All products included are exclusively available in Betta orders. Indian almond leaf, fish food and brochure are not for sale.

Information:

Feeding: Live foods such as fish. Can take commercially prepared food like raw shrimp, frozen krill, blood worms, pellets earthworms or any meat-based food. Avoid feeding for 3-5 days then introduced feeding of desired food. Feed the fish three or four times a day and slowly taper off to once a day as it gets older. Once your fish reaches adulthood, feed it once every other day

Attitude:
Voracious fish eater

Tank size:
Bigger the better. No less than 70 gallons. 125 gallons is recommended. Do not house this fish in a smaller tank

Tank Setup:
Place a thick layer of sand at the bottom of the tank. Add large, flat rocks and a few standing rocks in the sand. Place aquarium plants in the aquarium. Rocks and plants create hiding spaces for the fish

Install a heavy-duty filter in the tank. They produce a large amount of waste. An insufficient filter system will not filter out enough waste in the water. Add a heater to the tank, as well. Follow the directions for your filter and your heater closely. Aquarium heaters and filters are set up differently from brand to brand

Tankmates:
Arowana, Tigerfish. Not compatible with smaller fish

Information

Discus fish are very difficult fish to own. They’re extremely susceptible to disease, have a particular diet they like to eat, and have specific habitat requirements that need to be fulfilled. Despite their popularity for many aquarium owners, discus fish can be a bit of a challenge to raise and own.

Tank Requirements and General Info: Discus fish are bright colorful tropical fish, which is why they are so darn popular in today’s home aquariums. In general, they play nice with others and make wonderful additions to most people’s tanks. It should be noted that discus aren’t that aggressive so be careful with selecting other fishy companions to go with them.

In the wild, discus fish are native to the Amazon River basin running throughout the majority of South America. Their native environment should be taken into consideration when setting up the tank. Discuses require a higher temperature water setting then most other tropical aquarium fish, somewhere around 28 degrees Celsius. The pH level is also critical and should be around the 7 range.

Health and Disease: The biggest problem for most tank owners have with owning discus fish is combating disease. Discuses are very prone to everything so you’re going to constantly be cautious with everything. Water changes must be frequent, tank must be cleaned as well, and fish that carry any illnesses must be taken out of the aquarium immediately to insure the safety of you fish.

Breeding: Breeding discus fish can be even more of a challenge than keeping them alive. The tank water and habitat must be changed in order to properly breed them, discus fish will only mate under certain conditions. They also tend to be very nurturing and like to watch over the young. Both reasons are why it’s often suggested to have a separate breeding tank for your discus fish.

You get a free specialized Discus food and breeding cone for every purchase.  Different Discus variety are subject to availability depending on the latest stock, please contact us at service@globalaquaticsinc.com

Information:

Datnioides, also known as tigerfishes, are the only genus of fish in the family Datnioididae. Planted tanks are preferred when still small. All tiger fish will turn unstable and blackish when stressed. This can be due to water condition, space constraints or bullying by other fish (even of the same species).

Being predatory, they should not be kept together with peaceful fish. Tigers generally can grow quite fast if proper care and food is given to them.

Breeding: Not likely to breed in captivity.

Water Conditions: Tigerfish generally thrives best in waters of pH 7.0-7.5. Not less than 5.5

Temperature: 24-28 ºC or 75-82 ºF

Feeding: Live fish as this is their natural food in the wild. They can also be fed with commercially prepared food such as shrimp, worms , chicken meat and pellets. Provide a good variety of diet

Compatibility and Tankmates: They can be kept with other tigers, provided some considerations are taken into account such as feeding frequency and tank size. They can also go along with: freshwater stingrays, Asian Arowanas, Bichirs, Flagtails

Information:

The most important consideration in selecting your aquarium is horizontal surface area, as rays spend most of their time on the bottom actively searching for food.

Diet:
Freshwater stingrays have fast metabolisms and need 2-3 feedings each day; dietary variety is vital to good health. Live blackworms, ghost shrimp, crayfish, earthworms and small fishes are necessary for newly-acquired specimens. Eventually, most can be habituated to accepting canned invertebrates and animal-based frozen foods, but live animals remain an important component of the diet.

Tankmates: While rays often get along well with each other and certain other fishes, the usually benign suckermouth catfishes (i.e. Plecostomus spp) present an unusual problem. They often latch onto stingrays’ backs, sucking at the skin and causing lesions and stress-related ailments. The reasons for this behavior have not yet been thoroughly investigated.  Care must be taken in selecting tankmates as stingrays are reported to be capable of "blanketing" an Armatus, Flowerhorn, Siamese Tigerfish, etc.

Stingrays are subject to availability. Please contact us at service@globalaquaticsinc.com

Goliath African Tigerfish (Hydrocynus Goliath) available for special order. Import from Japan from one of our suppliers. Please contact us for inquiries.

Information:

The Goliath Tigerfish (Hydrocynus goliath) is a member of the African tetra family, Alestidae. Being the biggest member of this family, it can grow to reach around 1.4m long. A native of the Congo River basin, the Lualaba River, Lake Upemba and Lake Tanganyika in Africa, it’s the largest member of the tigerfish clan, a genus of fierce predators with protruding, dagger-like teeth.

Breeding: Giant tigerfish gather with other giant tigerfish of similar size. Small fish make large groups, and large fish make small groups. In the summer these fish migrate or move in rivers to find a place to spawn or release their eggs along the shores of lakes or the flooded banks of large rivers.

Females scatter hundreds of thousands of eggs into plants, where they hatch. The adults give no parental care. No breeding in captivity have been reported so far.
Feeding:  Live fish. Some living in captivity would accept commercially prepared foods like larger morsels, shrimp, worms , larvae, beef heart.

Maintenance: There is no need for any decor except perhaps a sandy base due to the speed and power of these fish. Water should be of the highest quality and well-oxygenated. It is a very active swimmer and therefore requires an absolutely enormous aquarium.

Compatibility and Tankmates:  Other larger fish like Armatus and Peacock Bass. Tank size will play an important role. purchase tiger fish buy african goliath tiger fish online
